Composite image showing clear sky upper-tropospheric humidity (UTH) and cloud top temperature from the GOES 11 micron channel. UTH represents a vertical average of relative humidity with respect to water between the 550 and 200 mb level in the atmosphere. Values vary between 0 and 100% and are color coded from blue to red. Cloud top temperatures range from 180 to 280 K colored in shades of pink. It is obvious that the UTH is enhanced near the edges of clouds. Vectors indicate the 200-mb wind field from ECMWF analyses.
